There may be up to half a million undocumented residents in Canada, according to some estimates, with the majority settling in Toronto. While critics welcome the City’s new initiative to raise awareness of this population group’s lives, hardships and contributions, they say politicians at all levels need to address root causes of poverty and homelessness in immigration debates.
